Cutler Street has gone to the dogs
Dog daycare and training facility opens for business

WARREN – Bring the puppies, bring the dogs. Alexandra Morgan’s Animal School is open for business at the end of Cutler Street. She trains and plays with animals in about 6,800 square feet of space and has room for about 40 dogs in her doggy daycare.

A first for the town, Ms. Morgan’s daycare opened at the end of February in a building owned by Andy Arruda after the town council and zoning board changed the zoning classification from manufacturing to business.

The daycare, she said, is for younger to medium aged dogs that need a place to frolic during the day when their owners are away at work. She said dogs come back home happy from all the exercise and dog play. Common dog behavioral problems can be solved from getting enough playtime and social time with other animals, said Ms. Morgan, a Brown University alumnus.

“For dogs with separation anxiety, daycare is the solution,” said Ms. Morgan.

But it took more work than a couple of town meetings. To get ready to open, she stripped and painted the space and put big barriers that act like huge dog pens for dogs to stay contained in, separating the small dogs and puppies from the bigger dogs.

While Alexandra Morgan's Animal School in Warren may have just opened its doors two months ago, Alexandra Morgan herself is anything but new to the animal scene.

Morgan has been training dogs for nearly 25 years, with a long line of satisfied clients behind her. While she owned and operated an Alexandra Morgan's Animal School from 1997-2001 in East Providence, in recent years she has focused on doing private training.

But the new Alexandra Morgan's Animal School in Warren opens dog owners to a wide variety of other services, besides house calls and private training sessions, all in one space - 6,800 sq. ft. of space, to be exact.

I was recently invited to check out the new location at 84 Cutler Street #7. I brought along one of my dogs, Ryder, and from the moment we walked into the facility, it was clear that it's a happy place for dogs. Ryder would concur, as she was immediately presented with homemade treats that did not disappoint. (I brought some home for my other dog, Seth, so he wouldn't miss out.)

Morgan and her staff not only make their own treats, but their own natural dog food, as well, in a kitchen right on site.

And while things are cooking up in the kitchen, there is plenty else going on.

Like Doggie Daycare, which is offered Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. And four 8-week ongoing Group Training Classes - Good Puppy, Good Manners, Good Puppy II and Canine Good Citizen.

Of course, being a dog trainer since 1984, Morgan has an extensive list of other services that she can offer her clients. As for the future of Alexandra Morgan's Animal School, there are plans for a dog grooming section, a cat rescue room and an indoor dog park (watching your dog play and socialize while you enjoy free Wi-Fi sounds pretty nice, doesn't it?).

Morgan and her staff are a warm, welcoming, fun group of dog lovers. Which is good, because dogs are their best customers.
